My given name was Lawrence Heller, born to Montgomery and Rebecca Heller in the year 1865, just about two months after the end of what has since become known as the Civil War. And that’s when I met Dao-Ming. When I stepped off the train in Philadelphia, she was there, almost as if she’d been expecting me.
